The Sunbed Ain't Gonna Shine Any More!

A post popped up on Facebook the other week reckoning we were opening a "sunbed gaff" - or at least remembering the one that used to be here. We had a good laugh at that one. And fair enough, because back in the day this place did have sunbeds, right alongside the spin classes, the boxing and the squash. Whatever was the thing at the time, the club had a go at it.

But no - the sunbeds aren't coming back. We all know a bit more these days about what they do to your skin, and there are nicer ways to get a glow than frying yourself under a row of tubes. So that particular bit of the eighties can stay in the eighties.

What is coming back is the spirit of the place — somewhere that tries things, mixes it up, and has a bit of everything going on. The squash courts are staying, and we're looking at the kind of stuff people actually want now: a proper gym, classes, maybe some racket sports you wouldn't expect. Rooms that can be a fitness class one minute and a function the next.

So no tan, sorry. But plenty else to get stuck into. Watch this space — and if there's something you'd love to see back (sunbeds aside!), let us know.
